Digital Performer 9.5.comments.I received my DP 9.5 boxed version from Sweetwater. The box is marked $395, I got it for $195.so far it's a really cool program, it takes a little reading operate it but once you get passed that it's fun. The synths and sound modules it has sound great, and it records audio and midi well. It's not a real easy program to run but it's sounds make it worthwhile. It comes with a great sounding demo session that shows off the sounds nicely.I'm still learning the program, but I am having fun with it. The program has lots of features, I can't even begin to list them all.

Still trying the demo. I found ways to load my non-standard external synth patch names into the patch selection dialogs; very powerful, but not consumer friendly. I've run into a display bug where midi notes displayed in sequences are in the wrong places until refreshed by pressing certain buttons.

Digital Performer Drum Patch Reviews

The velocity marks are in the right places, but the notes are offset to the right a few measures. Then, working to wrap my head around sequences, tracks, songs, bundles, chunks. The last two are pretty unfamiliar. Instrument definitions follow a specific XML file format which I believe mirrors the scheme in the Apple OS midi system. A person can edit or create these files and put them in a folder where DP on Windows will find them on startup. There is no button to push for importing these files.) It is not nearly as simple as Sonar's INS files.

I found if I made any little mistake in XML syntax, DP would disappear from my screen. So it helps to have a text editor that helps identify XML syntax errors. But the whole scheme offers some big payoffs in the ability to control what gets sent to the synth when changing patches, maybe even sysex or other special bank select messages. Sonar can send only certain bank select messages, so synths that need special sysex messages, such as changing from single channel to multi-channel 'performance' or 'combi' modes, need a sysex event programmed into the event list just ahead of the patch change event. I have not yet looked for a patch searching GUI like Sonar's.

That would be nice.
